Aortic Aneurysm Age-Adjusted Death Rate
This indicator shows the age-adjusted death rate per 100,000 population due to an aortic aneurysm. An aortic aneurysm is a balloon-like bulge in the aorta, the large artery that carries blood from the heart through the chest and torso. Aortic aneurysms were the primary cause of 10,597 deaths and a contributing cause in more than 17,215 deaths in the United States in 2009. About two-thirds of people who have an aortic dissection are male.
